1) Raw
tree limb between centers
Approximately 4" dia. x 7" long |
2) Roughing
down with a roughing gouge and making a spigot for chucking at left.

3) Mounted
in chuck and cleaning/finish cut with 1 1/4" Oval Skew

4) Entry
cut and start of cutting branches with long point of 1 1/4" oval
skew
|

|
5) Top
of branches, finish cut with short point and center of oval skew. (Ensure
that the "trunk" size remains constant or larger towards the
bottom of the tree)

6) Cut
with 1/8" parting tool below last branch
|

|
7) Cutting
bottom of tree with 3/8" Bowl gouge
(make finish cut) |
8) Undercutting
of lower branches with 1/8" parting tool

9) Finished
tree after touch-up sanding. Pressure at the outer rim of the branch creates
dark burn marks as decoration.

10) Texturing
with the "Sorby" texturing tool
(pointed wheel) |

11) Texturing
complete after slight sanding
(or wire brushing with a brass brush) |
12) Application
of "Mylands" friction polish on the rotating piece and polishing
at high speed with soft paper towel.

13) Coloring
(if desired) at low speed

14) Parting
off with a skew and last step in making this tree!
